Concert #2: Hung-Wei Huang & Aslan Aslanov

Presented by the Vancouver Chamber Music Society in collaboration with Anvil Theatre

Introducing Hung-Wei Huang, the new principal violist of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, making his debut on the Vancouver Chamber Music Society’s Anvil Centre stage. Join us for an intimate recital featuring Huang and pianist Aslan Aslanov. Hung-Wei Huang: Hung-Wei Huang is an internationally acclaimed violist, who became the youngest-ever principal viola of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and has since held principal positions with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. He has also served as guest principal viola for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, and London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Huang has graced prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Boston’s Jordan Hall, and the Kennedy Center, and has performed at the Marlboro, Santa Fe, and Great Mountain Festivals. His collaborations include performances with renowned artists like Joshua Bell, Myung-Wha Chung, Lang Lang, Yo-Yo Ma, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Paula Robison, and Mitsuko Uchida, as well as members of the Guarneri, Juilliard, and Orion string quartets. Aslan Aslanov: Aslan Aslanov is a dynamic and passionate pianist known for his vibrant creativity. Born in a Siberian village to Azeri parents, Aslan discovered his love for music at age 6. By 9, he had already won 3rd prize in a provincial competition in Tyumen. He later moved to Azerbaijan, attended the Special Music School in Baku, and continued to excel, winning 2nd prize in the national music competition in 2010.

Aslanov's international studies took him to festivals in Ukraine, Poland, Italy, Finland, Greece, and Russia. He received a scholarship to the Vancouver Academy of Music, where he completed the Artist Diploma Program and won 2nd place in the Canadian National Music Competition. In 2019, he made his Carnegie Hall debut. Aslanov completed his master’s degree at UBC in 2022 and continues to connect with audiences through his performances and teaching.
